One item on my wife Liz's and my bucket list is to explore the whole of the Wild Atlantic Way, stretching from the southwest coast of Ireland at Kinsale, all the way up to Malin Head in the far north.
So we made the most of our opportunity during our week long stay at Youghal in County Cork on the southwest coast to drive and hike around the area.
Heading west from Youghal along the coast we came to the wonderfully named village of Clonakilty, and just a bit further along the coastal drive we found this secluded cove, featuring wave washed sand and curvaceous rock formations.
So we had to stop for a walk along the beach and a rummage in the rock pools.
And, of course, a photograph or two of the beautiful scenery.
This particular image features the patterns in the sand caused by water draining back towards the sea at low tide, with darker streaks showing through along the paths the water was taking.
