One of my favourite flowers is the Clematis.
Available in dozens of varieties, the open flowers make for some spectacular close up photography subjects, with large, colourful petals and highly detailed stigma and stamens.
I had to go no further than my back garden to find this lovely example, but photographing it proved tricky as the slightest breeze would set it swaying.
Shooting on film, especially a slow film like Fuji Velvia, is even more difficult as you can't just blast off a few dozen frames as is the case with digital, in the hope that one will turn out OK - the cost would be prohibitive.
So I had to choose my moment very carefully to capture this sharp photo of the flower.
But it was worth the effort, as the Velvia transparency film rendered the colours with a lovely smooth and rich palette.
