Perched on a rocky outcrop between Llyn Peris and Llyn Padarn by the town of Llanberis in the Snowdonia National Park, Dolbadarn Castle must be one of the most beautifully situated ruins in Wales (if not the world!).
It was a rare sunny day when Liz and I last visited the shores of Llyn Padarn, following a hike around the otherworldy abandoned Dinorwig slate quarry on the far side of the lake.
The castle was sitting impressively framed between the heights of Snowdon to the right and the Glyderau to the left, just begging to be photographed.
A few nice looking cumulus clouds were forming and decaying over the peaks, so I waited until a batch of clouds were just in the right position over the pass of Llanberis before capturing this image.
Don't expect these sort of conditions every day, but even so this area of Snowdonia is a wonderful place to visit and photograph in any weather.
