This magnificent edifice is Caernarfon castle, which is situated at the south west end of the Menai Straits on the North Wales coast.
Sometimes a photograph takes meticulous planning, consulting weather forecasts, sunset times, tide tables and so on, and sometimes a beautiful scene just falls into your lap when you're least expecting it!
Such was the case here. My wife Liz and I were out for an evening meal along the coast from where we live when everything just came together. The lighting was just right, balanced between twilight and the floodlit castle. The tide was fully in and the straits were calm, giving a glowing reflection of the castle in the sea. The clouds gave a hint of movement and interest to the sky. Fantastic!
The only flies in the ointment were that we had to delay our meal so I could get this (and other) shots while the light was so good, and when we finally managed to eat I did so with soaking boots, socks and trousers, having waded into the sea to get the composition of the castle and its reflection how I wanted it. Such is life! Liz had a good laugh at my expense anyway.
