In the lead up to Remembrance Day in November 2016 my wife Liz and I made a trip to Caernarfon on the North Wales coast to visit the castle and see the display of ceramic poppies that had been installed there temporarily as part of a travelling display that is going around the UK.
The display at Caernarfon was called the weeping window, with a waterfall of poppies cascading down one of the towers and out onto the centre courtyard.
Liz and I arrived late in the afternoon, towards sunset, with the golden sunlight playing over the poppies causing them to shine against the shadowed background of the castle's towers.
I took just a few photos of the display, spending more time in quiet contemplation of the sacrifice the poppies represent, and the freedoms we enjoy as a result.
