A very chilly morning on the slopes of my local hill, Moel Famau in North East Wales, found me looking around for suitable subjects to photograph.
A flat grey sky sort of ruled out the dramatic grand scene, so instead of looking up I looked down and soon started seeing patterns in the frost coated bracken by the side of the path.
Using my camera's viewfinder to isolate meaningful compositions from the confusing clutter of dead bracken and heather, I finally arrived the the photo shown here.
To my eye there's quite a pleasing arrangement consisting of a strong linear element that leads the viewer's eye through the frame from one patch of fine detail at the bottom of the picture to another nicely textured area at the top.
And, of course, the flat grey lighting was just right for this sort of image, allowing all that detail to be seen.
