The story behind this image

The woodland path surrounding Llyn Crafnant in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales is a sheer delight to walk around and admire the scenery.

The views out over the lake and surrounding mountains are stunning, and make for great photography in the right light.

But when the sky is overcast and the light is flat grey then my photographic attention turns downwards to take in the details along the side of the path, which look and photograph much better under subdued lighting.

Autumn is a great time of year for this type of photography, with the greens, golds, russetts and browns all combining in a kaleidoscope of warm colours.

This patch of bracken caught my eye as Liz and I strolled along by the side of the lake, partially covering a grey rock which I knew would give a reference neutral colour to the final image, revealing those gorgeous autumn colours in all their glory.
