The beach at Rhyl on the North Wales coast is a huge expanse of flat sand, and with a large tidal range, undergoes dramatic changes in appearance over the course of a day.
My wife Liz and I decided on a long walk along the sands one early spring afternoon, and with an ebbing tide we had acres of fresh, wet sand to explore, dotted here and there with tidal pools that had been left behind and were slowly draining into the sea.
Although it wasn't a sunny day for our walk, I was glad of the lowering of clouds overhead, allowing me to photograph images like this one as the clouds reflected dramatically in the shallow pools that we passed by.
This particular image is one of my favourites from that afternoon, with a bright band of lighter cloud providing a dramatic highlight and focal point for the composition.
