For me this is a really happy sunshine holiday photo. It may not be high art but it makes me smile every time I look at it!
We're on the beach at Phillipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side of St Martin in the Carribean and, as usual, I'm wandering around camera in hand while my wife Liz and daughter Allie check out the shops. There's a couple of camera stores here with stuff at amazingly low prices but I'm resisting the temptation!
When taking holiday snaps like this I'm always on the lookout for something a bit incongruous or out of the ordinary to add a bit of spice to the shot. I'd already taken a shot from this same viewpoint with nobody in the foreground which was nice, but then this toddler tottered into view, complete with full sun survival kit (he must be an English toddler dressed like that!). I waited until he was in a good postiton in the frame and took a second shot. Much more interesting and fun than the shot with nobody in view.
