The story behind this image

I took these photos showing the beach and headland of Colwyn Bay on the North Wales coast while driving back from a visit to Llandudno along the coast road that runs from Rhos-on-Sea up to the A55.

The combination of the full moon shining on the wet sand, complimented by strings of streetlamps looking like jewels glowing in the darkness and reflecting in the calm sea was very striking and I couldn't resist pulling over to photograph the scene.

I decided on showing these two compositions as a pair in order to first of all provoke a question. Where is that silvery light coming from in the zoomed in image? It doesn't look natural against the prevading orange colour of the streetlights.

The answer of course, is provided in the zoomed out image showing the full moon high in the night sky, beaming it's silvery reflected light down onto the wet sand.

In the end or course, it's the silver light that's natural and the organge light that's manmade. But that's one of the playful quirks that light provides for us every day if we have eyes to see.
