The story behind this image

Sunrise in early June occurs early in the morning up here in North Wales, at a latitude of 53°N.

So it was a 2.30am start for me to make one of my annual pilgrimages to what must be one of the most beautiful and ethereal sunrise locations in the world.

Of course, I'm talking about Penmon Point on the southeastern tip of the Isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast.

The silence of the dawn is only broken by the sussurant hiss of waves on pebbles, and the mournful tolling of the warning bell from the stunningly located Penmon Point lighthouse, just offshore.

This is a time for contemplation, for stillness, just taking in the wonders of God's creation as the peace and tranquility of this wonderful place washes over you.

Of, course, I can't remain that tranquil for ever, as there's work to be done as I try my best to capture some of that wonderful ambiance in a photograph, taking in elements of the wave washed foreshore with its seawed encrusted rocks and the dramatic lighthouse just catching the light from the freshly risen sun.

But even capturing images takes second place to just being there and experiencing the wonder of this other-worldly location.
