Alwen Reservoir in North Wales is a gem of a place to visit.
Not as busy as nearby Brenig, nor as developed, there's a lovely seven mile hike that goes right around the lake.
My wife Liz and I walked this route last summer, and part of the trail took us through what seemed to be an enchanted wood, like something out of 'Lord of the Rings'.
Patches of sunlight and shadow played through the densely packed pines, while the moss covered trunks glowed in the surreal light.
Of course, I had to stop for a couple of photos, and I'm really glad I'd carried my tripod all the way round the lake with me, as with low light levels and a polarising filter to enhance the colours, I needed quite a long exposure to capture the beauty of that wonderful light.
